Natural quartzite slabs
Quartzite is sandstone transformed into a very hard rock made mostly of quartz. It resists scratches and acids far better than marble, which is why it is the favourite stone for everyday kitchen countertops. Some quartzites look like marble; others have translucent crystal and bold colours, perfect for backlighting.
Do not confuse it with engineered quartz, which is a manufactured material: see quartzite vs quartz. Before choosing a white quartzite, ask for a sample and do the glass and lemon tests described in quartzite that looks like marble.
